CompassionART is a project by Dilly Arts based in Hexham, Northumberland. The project is run by and for people living with long term chronic illness. We provide opportunity to engage in personal creative development in a supportive, compassionate environment.
The first run of CompassionART projects took place in January 2018. The sessions included Textile Art with Francis Keay, Creative Writing workshops with Sheree Mack, Gong Bath workshops with Gill Gosling, and Outdoor Woodland Sessions with Deni Riach. At this time, the Hexham Courant published an article on Alison Redshaw-Boxwell and the CompassionART project.
The second run of CompassionART took place in the Autumn of 2019. Twenty sessions were run including Furniture Art with Alison Redshaw-Boxwell, Ceramics with Chrissie Constant, and Film Making with Lindsey Duncanson. Lindsey was also commissioned to create the CompassionART film that can be seen on the homepage of this site.
As we move into the autumn of 2020 we are about to begin our third run of CompassionART under very different circumstances. COVID-19 has affected everyone’s lives in different ways and many of the CompassionART participants may have been required to shield. The opportunity to engage in these sessions will have benefits on many levels. We are having to run the sessions through Zoom, and this will ensure the safety of all our participants. We have chosen art forms that translate particularly well in an online environment.
